THE FIVEFOLD BLESSING OF THE LORD SHALL COME ON YOU AND OVERTAKE YOU

Deuteronomy 28:1—_“And it shall come to pass, if you shall hearken diligently unto the voice of the LORD your God, to observe and to do all His commandments, which I command you this day, that the LORD your God will set you on high above all nations of the earth.”_

AND THESE BLESSINGS SHALL COME ON YOU AND OVERTAKE YOU
The very first thing that I would like to look at, regarding these many blessings, is found in Deuteronomy 28:2. The Lord through Moses said, “And all these blessings shall come on you, and overtake you.”

This literally means that the blessings of the Lord will be so abundant, that they will chase us down. Location doesn’t matter, age doesn't matter, and there are no time limits on these blessings. Yes, I’m really saying that the blessings of God will be so abundant, that these blessings will actually chase us down and overtake us. That word, overtake, means “to take hold of.” These blessings will come upon and us and take hold of us. In other words, I’m telling you that if your faith is anchored in Christ and the Cross, you cannot outrun these blessings. Let that sink in for a moment! If your faith is anchored correctly in Christ and Him crucified, then you cannot outrun the blessings of God! Wherever the obedient Christian goes, blessings are sure to follow.

Think about what the Holy Spirit is saying. He said that not only will the blessings overtake you, but you’ll be blessed in the city and blessed in the field. Your family and children will be blessed, and all that belongs to you will be blessed. You will be blessed when you come in and when you go out and when you get up and when you lay down. Hallelujah! What a promise!

THE LORD SHALL COMMAND THE BLESSINGS UPON YOU
Read what Deuteronomy 28:8 says: “The Lord shall command the blessings upon you.” How phenomenal is that! At this very moment, if you will believe Him, He is commanding blessings to come upon you. And not only will those blessings come upon you, but on everything that you do. Listen to what the Holy Spirit says: “The LORD shall command the blessings upon you in your storehouses, and in all that you set your hand unto; and He shall bless you in the land which the LORD your God gives you.” I can’t say it any better that what has already been said. If you believe this, then God, right now, at this very moment, is commanding blessings upon you

THE LORD SHALL MAKE YOU PLENTEOUS IN GOODS
Deuteronomy 28:11 states, “the LORD will make you plenteous in goods.” The Holy Spirit is saying that we will have plenty of what we need. Once again, let me state that it’s not pleasing to the Lord for anyone of His children to suffer poverty of any kind, and to be without what we need. Understand what I’m saying. God did not say that He will make us all multi-millionaires, or that we would have so much money that we won’t know what to do with it, but rather that He will make us plenteous in goods, which means that He will provide what we need—financially, physically, spiritually, and whatever else we might need. This does not speak of greed of any kind, for it’s not about getting what you want, but rather what is needed, if you believe it.

THE LORD SHALL OPEN UNTO YOU HIS GOOD TREASURE
Verse 12 says that He has so much in His treasure in heaven that we have access, literally, to the treasure house of heaven. This is beyond what we can even think or imagine, for it’s like having an open door to Fort Knox, but only better, much better, for whatever we need, God’s great treasure house has it!

THE LORD SHALL MAKE YOU THE HEAD AND NOT THE TAIL
This is absolutely beautiful! This means that you will lead and not follow, for the Lord intends for you to be the lead dog, not the back dog. It’s there for the taking, if you will only believe.

WHAT ARE THE QUALIFICATIONS FOR THESE BLESSINGS?
The only requirement to receive these blessing is found in the very first verse of Deuteronomy 28—we are to keep His statutes and commandments. However, there is not a single one of us who could ever keep every one of God’s commandments or statutes; it’s impossible as we have all failed God in some way or the other. Seeing that we could not keep these statutes and commandments, God had a master plan to handle that.

Knowing that man was incapable of doing such, God sent His only Son to live on this earth, which He did perfectly for 33 and a half years and never sinner in word, thought, or deed, and He did this for us. He is the perfect man, and He kept the law of God in every respect. All we have to do is to place our faith in Christ and what He did for us at Calvary, and we instantly go from being a lawbreaker to a law-keeper. This means that if my faith and trust is in Christ and Him crucified, then God doesn’t see me; He sees Christ. He is the reason why we can avail ourselves of these blessings, not our works, not our efforts, but because of Christ.

The Cross must ever be the focus of our Christian lives. God wants to bless you, and bless you abundantly so, but there is one thing that you must do to receive these blessings: place your faith in Christ and what He did at the Cross. There’s your answer, and your key—Christ and Him crucified.
